HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008

Topics: General

The old year is history and the New starts today. I have reflected on the past failures and successes and made a new list of priorities. There are things we can not change and to dwell upon them is a waste of time. There is an adage on a bulletin board at my desk and it reads as follows: "If you really want tomorrow to be different than yesterday, you have to do something different today."

Throughout 2007 I lost family and friends to death, some were unexpected and shocking whereas others were expected due to illness. No matter the reason, they are missed and will always be a part of my life. I believe that most of us have friends and family that we should contact frequently, but don't as we are so busy. I have decided that nothing is more important than family and friends and it is my resolve to stay in touch, no matter what. Attached is a poem written by Chas. Hanson Towne. This in memory of a friend and fellow law enforcement officer in Hillsborough County, Julius Storch, who passed away December 28, 2007

AROUND THE CORNER

Around the corner I have a friend
In this great city that has no end;
Yet days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year has gone;
And I never see my old friend's face;
For life is a swift and terrible race.

He knows I like him just as well,
And in the days when I rang his bell,
And he rang mine. We were younger then;
But now we are busy, tired men---
Tired with playing a foolish game;
Tired with trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow," I say, "I'll call on Jim,
Just to show I am thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes;
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner-----yet miles away.
"Here's a telegram sir"----Jim died today!
And that's what we get, and deserve in the end.
Around the corner a vanished friend.
