Dad With Knife Cheered As Son Brawled, Deputies Say

Topics: General

A Tampa man drove to where his son was using a baseball bat to assault a juvenile on Sunday, pulled a knife from his trunk and told his son to fight the juvenile, Hillsborough County deputies say.

Ivan Montanez, 42, told his son to "go ahead – hit him, hit him good," a criminal arrest affidavit states.

Montanez then approached the juvenile, waved the knife and said he would poke the child's eyes out and cut him up, according to the affidavit.

Montanez, of 136 Rodney Lane, was arrested Sunday. He faces a felony count of aggravated assault with a knife and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

He was in Orient Road Jail with bail set at $2,500.

A search yielded no record of arrests for Montanez in Florida.

The children's ages and other details of the arrest weren't immediately available.

A good friend of mine said,"Stupid is as stupid does."
