Middleton teacher had sex with student

TAMPA – Police say a special education teacher at a Tampa high school has been arrested and charged with having sex with a ninth grade student.
According to investigators, 33-year-old Christina Butler, who teaches at Middleton High School, faces charges of lewd and lascivious battery after detectives say she had sex with a 15-year-old boy who is reportedly one of her students.
Detectives say they discovered the relationship after they caught the boy driving Butler's car on Tuesday night.
Officers were conducting surveillance at an apartment complex on Hillsborough Avenue when they saw six teenaged boys wearing green and white gloves leave the complex on bikes. They say the teens were riding fast, and they crossed Hillsborough Avenue, forcing traffic to stop.
A few minutes later, the teens were seen driving along 22nd Street in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee. Officers say they were still wearing the gloves, and they were driving erratically.
Police stopped the Jeep, and the driver told them he didn't have a license, but his friend Christina had let him borrow the car. Officers then discovered that the vehicle belonged to Butler.
Butler was called to the scene, and while police were waiting for her, they say one of the boys told them the driver had a relationship with the teacher. The officers became suspicious, and after questioning Butler they say she admitted to having a sexual relationship with the driver.
Officers arrested Butler and she was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. She was later released on bond.
Butler is a new teacher at Middleton High, having just started there in August. She teaches special education.
Comment from the ABF siteWhere has Ms. Butler been? There have been numerous arrests of teachers in the Tampa area that she should have known her chances were slim that she would get away with it. I am dumbfounded that a "professional" would risk her reputation and career to have a sexual relationship with a juvenile. One thing is for sure, she won't have the defense that Debra LaFave had that she is too pretty for jail. On the other hand, she is not a man so she will be treated differently. After this is all over and in the event she is convicted, maybe her fifteen year old boyfriend will jump in and support her.
