Man faces sex charge involving 4-year-old

Topics: News

SARASOTA COUNTY -- A man who was recently released from a Washington state prison after serving time for a sex crime committed there faces new sex charges for a 2004 incident.

Robert Warren, 31, is charged with capital sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation. Warren was charged after a girl, now 8 years old, disclosed that he had abused her when she was 4, according to the arrest affidavit.

In December, the girl was interviewed by the Child Protection Team of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Investigators then reviewed Warren's documents from the Washington case and discovered that he had confessed to the crimes against the 8-year-old, the affidavit shows.

Warren was released from the Airway Heights Prison on Jan. 23, and booked into the Sarasota County Jail Wednesday night.

The sexual battery charge carries no bail.
