OLDSMAR - A foster parent is accused of molesting two girls placed in the home he shares with his wife, authorities said.

Brian Starmer, 40, of Oldsmar, was arrested Sunday on a warrant charging him with two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child.

The girls were 10 and 7 when the assaults were said to have occurred in 2004 and 2005, Pinellas County sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha said.

According to court documents unsealed this week, each girl said Starmer would bring her into a bedroom, have her remove her pants and put her face in a pillow. Starmer would then rub each girl's back and genitals with lotion, the documents say.

For one of the girls, the assaults occurred repeatedly from Jan. 1, 2004, through Dec. 22, 2005, the court documents say. For the other girl, they occurred from Aug. 1, 2005, through Dec. 22, 2005, the documents say.

Starmer was being held Tuesday at the Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $50,000, a jail spokeswoman said.

A man identifying himself as Starmer's nephew declined to comment when reached at the house Tuesday, saying the family was hiring an attorney.

The Sarasota YMCA has a contract with the state to place foster children in Pinellas County, and the agency had placed the two children in the Starmer home, said Lee Johnson, the agency's executive vice president.

The girls have been removed from the Starmers' care, Johnson said. "The kids are safe in preadoptive homes and seem to be doing okay," he said. The Starmers are no longer licensed as foster parents by the Department of Children & Families, he said.

The sick bastards that molest innocent children need to be addressed properly. I can't think of a better use for the death penalty. We can't help these people there is some thing seriously wrong.

My daughter is the one who the little girl came to and told her they were being molested. We let the 8 year old in when she said she didn't want to go back to Brian Starmers house and called 911. The Starmers came down and tried to force their way into my house to get her back. Luckily the sheriff's office finally showed up! Would you believe that some our neighbors thought we were wrong to call the police? And others just didn't want to "get involved"! Maybe when it's their kids they might get involved. The whole neighborhood makes me SICK! And my next door neighbor Fred told me he would have turned the girl away rather than call the police! We moved!

Greg,
There are several things of which you should feel proud. First, the child felt comfortable enough to approach your daughter and confide in her. Second, your decision to call the police is commendable as you have relieved a lot of stress in that childs life. The person that would turn that child away or refuse to get involved, is just as bad as the predator. I am a firm believer that God sent that child to you and you reacted as God knew you would.
Thank you for getting involved. Thank you for protecting a child that was seeking help. Thank you for your convictions. Good luck in your new community.

As of yesterday (May 11th, 2007) Brian Starmer has been granted his THIRD motion to continue...translation he can keep putting off his pre-trial. It has been over a year since that little girl came to us asking for help and that pervert still hasn't had to face justice. He's running around free as a bird. The girls he molested will never be free of the memories of what he did to them. I just do not understand. I know Lady Justice is supposed to be blind (impartial?) but is she lame too?
