Jail Worker Gets 15-Year Sentence For Child Porn
Topics: NewsTAMPA - A former Polk County sheriff's employee was sentenced Thursday morning to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.
After he is released, James Patrick Odle, 24, of Winter Haven, will be on probation indefinitely under the terms of his sentence.
Odle was a civilian detention technician at the South County Jail in Frostproof when investigators from the FBI's Innocent Images Task Force searched his room in his parents' home.
The search occurred after Odle transmitted 32 images of explicit child pornography during an Internet chat session, according to Odle's plea agreement.
A forensic examination of his computers and electronic storage devices revealed more than 5,000 images, including three video files, of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Specialists such as Odle work in the jail control room, monitoring video and opening electronic doors, Polk sheriff's office Chief of Staff Gary Hester said.
Odle had been suspended without pay since November 2005 and left in June, Hester said.
