Child Abuse Council Salutes Volunteers For Efforts
Topics: NewsHow nice it is to awaken to read the news and not see where one of our trusted members of society has been accused or arrested for some predatory act against a child. I may be speaking prematurely as I have not yet read the St. Peteresburg Times. The following is a bit of positive news and should be read as this sort of article is rare.
Tampa Tribune - November 13, 2006
TAMPA - The Krewe of Agustina was recognized recently by the Child Abuse Council with the Liz Kennedy Volunteer Appreciation for the group's work in child care centers, with special events and for planting a butterfly garden.
The award, named for a council founder, was presented to Linda Hanlon, the krewe's president, and Natalie Cacciatore, the past president, at the fifth annual Heart to Heart Volunteer Luncheon at the Tampa Yacht Club. The event was attended by about 200 volunteers.
Margaret Cusack won the You Rock! Award, which honors youngsters involved in philanthropy. The Plant High School sophomore spent her summer volunteering at the council. While a student at Wilson Middle School, she started the Mix It Up! program to break down social boundaries and expand friendships.
Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella, his wife, Christine, and the hockey team were honored with the Corporate Volunteer Appreciation Award for organizing fundraisers, including an annual celebrity fishing tournament, and providing fishing trips and street hockey events for children.
