Butterflies

Topics: General

As you may have noticed, the theme of butterflies surround Amanda. She loved butterflies and the color lavender. As a kid I loved butterflies and lightning bugs, chasing them around the yard but as I grow older, it seems that I have not noticed them as much. Since becoming involved with ABF, the butterfly has once again entered into my life.

Recently while Roy and I were at Florida State Prison in an open field with many people moving about, a lone butterfly flew at Roy from nowhere. I saw it heading for his face and make an abrupt turn before making contact. It flew past me and was gone, not to be seen again. Roy and I were inspired by the event and immediately thought of Amanda.

Last week while working in the backyard at home, my wife Patti and I were talking when again, a lone butterfly passed by us several times. It landed on a table near Patti and spread it wings. She slowly reached over and gently stroked it wings. The butterfly stayed and enjoyed the attention. This showing of affection lasted several minutes with both of us astonished at this creature and its lack of fear. Suddenly the butterfly closed its wings in the vertical postion but remained. Patti slowly placed her index finger next to her new found friend, who slowly mounted the finger and stayed for awhile. Soon the butterfly flew away never to return.

Little Butterfly, if I could follow, would you lead me to Amanda?

Believe what you may but I believe Amanda is reaching out to us.

After reading this I found myself staring at the screen for several minutes with tears in my eyes and being very obviously moved at what I had just read. Bud will never know what an inspiration he is to us as well. I believe that Amanda is putting these thoughts and feelings in him and Patti which has given him words to express those feeling. She would have loved them very much if she had been given the chance to meet them.
