ABF Golf Registration Slow
Topics: GeneralTAMPA - The First Amanda Brown Golf Tournament scheduled at MacDill AFB on February 4, 2007 has gotten off to a slow start. Foundation spokesman, Bud Fisher, said "Of the 144 positions, we have 120 remaining."
When asked why he thought the registration is slow, Fisher responded, "This is a bad time of year for raising money. Holidays are foremost on people's minds and they are watching their pocketbooks. It should improve after Christmas."
Fisher did not think that scheduling the tournament on Superbowl Sunday would have that much effect, as it is an early morning start, giving the particpants a chance to get in a round of golf before going to any Superbowl parties. There are many who do not play golf or because of other commitments can not particpate, the ABF is suggesting that individuals or groups can purcahse a hole for the tournament. By purchasing a hole for a company or individual, signage measuring approximately 18X24 inches will be placed at a hole on the course with their name and/or logo. Fisher added that it has been suggested that missing / murdered children, fallen heroes of law enforcement, firefighters and the military have signage in their honor and rememberance.
The money raised from the tournament will be used for the purpose of educating parents and children as to the dangers of child predators. Consentration on the single parent as to the "do's and don'ts" of exposing their children to strangers or new found friends. Roy and Sylvia Brown encountered many obstacles in the begining and learned of the needs that families have when faced with a missing or exploited child. It is their desire to be able to go to families in trouble to help with moral and financial support. Roy Brown said, " Bills are still due but the missing child is the priority.Bills don't get paid and generally the parents don't work for many days with no money coming in. He said the newsmedia, law enforcement and volunteers seem to come at you from all sides and someone needs to be an organizer for the family. Fisher added, "ABF intends to be that shoulder to lean on. From the onset until they are no longer needed."
Whether you play golf or not or if you would like to donate something to the Amanda Brown Foundation to help in this cause, every coin counts.
